This was such fun! I’d decided to go out for a stealth with my lovely, second-hand British Military Bivi. Then I decided to get myself a 24hr ration pack to go with it. And then I thought, why not head out to an area fairly near an army base to see if I could go 24hrs undetected. So it kinda turned into this army-themed thing I settled down half a km from the base in public woodland, with it just in view through the trees. I was a sensible distance away so that aspect of my endeavour was kind of a non-issue, but the woods on this warm April day were absolutely teeming with people and dogs So, I would be hoping to go unnoticed by using my low-profile, camo shelter, being quiet, staying low and not moving around too much I really loved this one, getting to test out my stealth skills (I do love to hide!), munching my way through my first ration pack (although there was way too much for me to eat within 24hrs in there), and being entertained by the lovely doggos running about This was a simple night out. Under the trees. Under the moon. Listening to the birds and the Muntjac. I didn’t even bring my usual night-time filming lights, only using the red light on my head torch for this one, in the hopes that I wouldn’t be seen. I had a nice sleep, feeling stealthy and hidden and kept everything crossed that the morning doggos wouldn’t decide to alert their owners to my presence GEAR LIST

This was such a special occurrence for me, I created a dedicated video focused specifically on the aurora..
I took my DCF tent out for a trial run in the rain and did some chaotic but delicious cooking! It was late April and plenty of rain was forecast, so I took myself out to the woods to have a soggy night out in the Xmid Pro1, just to check it was all sound really before taking it on a longer adventure As it got dark, I started cooking my tea – chicken tikka masala baps. You’d think this would be quite simple really, but I somehow managed to smoke myself out. The food was absolutely delicious though! One of my favourite woodland meals so far (I know I always say that) As I settled down to eat my creation, rain started to fall, just lightly. But it continued all through the night, getting heavier and giving the woods a good drenching. I’d actually never seen these woods so full of water, there are no streams here usually but, on this morning, they had popped up all over the place The tent did very well, a very small amount of manageable condensation but no leaks or other water-related dramas to report on, so I feel confident in taking this out for multi-day trips. I also tried a new bivi bag, this is the Mountain Equipment Ion.. can’t report on how well it works yet, but as soon as I’ve given it a good ol’ WildBeare Torture Test I’ll let you know Gear List

It was time to dust of my old friend – the Giant Leaky Umbrella This time for a stealth camp. I just love the dome-like space under this umbrella, and thought it would make a perfect frame to build a stealth den for the night There was some rain and wind forecast for the next morning, so my first job was to anchor it down as securely as I could, and make it waterproof (gotta love an umbrella that isn’t actually waterproof!) Being an umbrella, it is of course the prefect shape to get whipped away by a gust of wind, so I guyed it down from all of my modded attachment points, and from the middle point at the back. I then clipped my real light, DCF tarp over the top of it to make it waterproof. Next came the camo netting, followed by leaves and sticks, until my lil den just looked like a big pile of woodland stuff. From above, it was nearly invisible, however from the ground you could still make out the dome-like structure. I messed up a bit, because by building the den with the doorway facing away from the wind, I had unwittingly set it up with the doorway instead facing a small path, pretty close by that I didn’t know was there. So, I hoped for the best that no one would come along I got my lil nook all set up inside and settled down to make my most delicious camping meal yet. I cooked lamb chops in garlic, rosemary, salt and pepper, and then fried up some pre-cooked rice in the meat juices. A lil weevil friend walked around the rim of my pot over and over and over, and I snuggled down for a lovely sleep in the woods I woke to gusts of wind, followed by the pitter-patter of rain on my shelter. It felt real cosy, and as I sat and had my breakfast, the weather really came in, with a random and short-lived mini rain storm. I looove hammock camping (I find it so comfy!) but I don’t do it often as I always feel so obvious and visible hanging above the ground. So for this camp I decided to stealth it up using 3 panels of camo netting. I used the hammock with no bug net, just a head bug net to wear while sleeping. I went tarpless for this one as no rain was forecast, although I did have a ground sheet that I could chuck over myself if things became unexpectedly wet. I’m glad it didn’t rain though as this might have been a bit of a chaotic arrangement! I had such a nice night in the woods - my first mild night out this year, playing suduko, spotting muntjac, eating spagbol, watching a spider eat an unfortunate woodlouse, making friends with a moth and just chilling in my comfy lil nook. In the morning there were loads of dog walkers on the nearby paths, so I got to test out my stealthiness and managed to go completely unseen Gear List

With my small tarp and a bivi bag, I wombled my way up to a beautiful mountain lake and made up a stealthy, low-profile lil nook to spend the night. My camp was totally hidden from view by bushy heather to my right and a rocky rise to my left, and I spent the evening watching Geese Friends going back and forth between adjacent lakes, beating each other up and bobbing around on the water. The stars sparkled above me and I fell asleep before midnight (unlike me) and woke early to a pink moon rising over rocky crags to the south. It was cold, around 5°C so I went back to sleep a while before enjoying a relaxed breakfast in the early spring sunshine This was a gorgeous lil jaunt Gear List

(Dyneema Composite Fabric) Just 485g.. kinda crazy! I was hoping to find something a bit stealthier, maybe a camo DCF tent, but I wasn’t able to find anything in those kinda colours. So, I decided to go with the Durston X-mid, as I’ve been very impressed with the heavier non-pro version I really liked this tent but more importantly, my floppy joints will really enjoy the weight of it. A lovely lil stealth camp! I really loved using the brown camo netting before to blend in with the ground, so I thought I'd try with green this time to try to blend in above ground with the summer foliage There were paths on both sides, and I managed to not be seen, even when someone strayed off the path and wandered right in front of my camp, although that did feel a bit close for comfort haha This was a hot day, 28°C and there was also a little light rain, which sounded so lovely although it didn't even seem to breach the tree canopy. Thunderstorms were forecast, and I was excited to experience a storm under a tarp, but typically they didn't start until I was driving home I met an angry bug on this camp! He fell out of a tree, seemed kinda shell-shocked, and when he started getting active he launched a piece of wood and pumped himself up to fight. He was big and a bit fluffy. I wasn't sure what he was so had to look it up.. apparently he's a Cockchafer. Which I found highly amusing, had the giggles that day haha! You can also call him a Doddlebug, which sounds much cuter I think. Gear List

It started so well, with both an 18km and a 30km circular route planned (I would decide which to do later on, depending on how my floppy joints did with it all). So with fresh legs, I set off straight into a thoroughly enjoyable scramble up the Afon Ddu gorge I'd had a guided gorge walk here last year, so I was familiar with the route. Although, with my huge rucksack and no ropes or helmet, this time around was more of a poodling-up-the-sides and paddling-across-a-few-pools than a full on gorge walk. Naturally I cautiously made it all the way up to the 'big waterfall'. It was so beautiful here. The gorge walls were steep and high and completely surrounded the falls and the plunge pool, the sun just peeking over the rim of the gorge, and then sinking out of view Aware of the chill I might get in the shade, I had just a quick dunk before heading back down the gorge to the path and continuing on my way. I'd planned to camp on Moel Eilio and had just a few km of what I assumed would be fairly easy hiking I was wrong about that, haha! After the gorge, the path started steep but easy, a track up through Coed Dollgarog. But the track soon turned to nothing, and nothing soon turned to overgrown crazy. Just as I was getting tired out and the sun was disappearing behind the hill, overgrown crazy turned into boggy hell. In my attempt to avoid an obvious, endless bog crossing my way, I had ended up a fair distance onto a 250m wide area of thick, sticky, grass covered mud. The kind you get sucked in and stuck in, like half-set cement This stretch had me reduced to tears.. Balance on wobbly grass tuft Slip Foot gets sucked down Fall over Repeat. When I eventually collapsed, exhausted into my tent on Moel Eilio, rubbing my sore feet, I was questioning my life choices and had an uncomfortable feeling of wanting to go home The moon and stars danced about my tent and Llyn Cowlyd; the deepest lake in North Wales, and my view for the evening. I was meltingg 🫠 (hiking in anything over 14°C usually = melted Beare). But of course, the tumbling river was there to cool me down, and I had a beautiful evening, having a refresher with the tent and trying to figure out why I had a Flappy Front Bit 🤔 The sun set over the hills and Jupiter rose. The lil glowing head torches of the night hikers on the opposite mountain became visible in the dark (can you guess which mountain it is?)
