Ahh a lovely fully enclosed tarp configuration. This one is called the Pyramid. This is a super-simple set up, although I had some trouble initially, as I found that my trekking pole wasn’t quite long enough to erect it, leaving me with a floppy tarp (never a good thing). This pole claims to be 132cm, but I measure it as 125cm fully extended, and 5cm of that is the spike, which just sinks into this kind of ground. So, I decided instead to suspend it from a ridge line, strung between the adjacent trees. This worked really well, and had the added bonus of no pole getting in the way I thought this arrangement looked so pretty in the fading light, and decided to name her Primrose – Primrose the Pyramid. I found that Primrose’s flaps were quite annoying. This formation would be amazing in bad weather, great protection from the elements, but on a dry evening getting in and out, I just kept getting caught up in the flaps I got the fire going and cooked up some delicious sausage and onion baps before settling down for a lovely sleep in the woods I woke to a chorus of birds, a tawny owl and crows, and sat in the doorway of the tarp, wondering if I could modify it somehow. I played around lifting one side and created a new, much more open configuration, and sat to have breakfast with woodland views. I just love how versatile tarps are! Gear List
